Shooting & Editing process

Since we include 2 special effects and both has large workload, we distributed the work with: I take charge in shooting & editing in Adobe Premiere Pro, and Jia Xuan edit both of the 2 special effects in Adobe After Effects.

The editing process included:

• cutting & arranging footages
• colour correction
• colour grading
• adding sound effects & ambience music
• adding blinking effects using eclipse mask in Premiere Pro

While exporting, I've faced problem which the colour displayed in the exported mp4 was not same as shown in Premiere Pro. Luckily, I discovered the right solution by turning on the display colour management so that the exported colour is aligned with the screen colour in PP.

Reflection

This assignment has larger workload compared to the previous assignments. It requires us to combine all the knowledges obtained throughout the whole semester. Meanwhile, task distributions and time management plays an important role in smoothing the assignment process. It was a long process since we have to start the work by doing research and taking discussions. The brainstorm process makes us feel a bit overwhelmed while planning the story and shots. Things always go well in our imagination, while reality always blow the clouds away. While working through the shooting process, we found out that some planned shots doesn't go well in the camera frames or doesn't work in the setting. Therefore, we have to make an adjustment by changing the story or shots, sometimes, rest of the actions affected that we have to replan mostly the whole thing. In contrast, there's some moment, we discovered some new adjustment that can be made to create a better ambience. For example, the knife holding scene was changed from only displaying the sharp knife to include the protagonist in the other side to create a contrast. Moving to the editing process, me and Jia Xuan will show each other our work, so that we can receive feedback and make adjustment. Overall, this project provides a great chance for me to go through the whole production process, so that I'm mentally and technically prepared with the production workload.
